Excavation for Rasuna Said Revitalisation Project Left Exposed, Motorists Express Concern
Jakarta — Open excavations from the Rasuna Said area revitalisation project, located in Kuningan, Setiabudi, remain exposed between the express lane and local lane, creating traffic safety concerns on Senin, 2 March 2026.
The absence of adequate covers or barriers at several project locations has startled motorists. Doli (30), a commuter, recounted his shock upon returning to Jalan HR Rasuna Said after a two-week absence. “I’ve just come back here and was startled to see these holes. The last time I passed was when they were dismantling the poles,” Doli said when interviewed at the location on Monday.
On the first section, the excavation has been sealed with cement. White barrier boards have been installed facing the local lane as project markers. However, on the subsequent sections still under construction, barriers consist only of concrete road dividers and a few traffic cones, which residents deem insufficient for ensuring road safety.
Doli expressed concern about the minimal protection: “I’m only just seeing this now, it’s quite scary. They’ve only put up those cones as barriers,” he said.
Similar complaints were raised by resident Nisa (31), who voiced particular worry given that Jalan HR Rasuna Said is known as one of Jakarta’s most congested routes, especially during peak hours. Nisa stated she felt uncomfortable navigating the project area during heavy traffic flow.
“It makes you anxious, especially when there’s congestion. You’re afraid you might fall off the side,” Nisa remarked.
Both residents have called on authorities to increase safety measures around the project site to prevent dangers to road users.
The area development encompasses the construction and improvement of pedestrian areas, water drainage systems, road widening, and landscaping arrangements. The project aims to comprehensively revitalise the Rasuna Said corridor, a critical commercial and administrative zone in central Jakarta.
