In the midst of warmth and camaraderie, surrounded by the aromatic allure of Balinese specialities, lies a tradition that unites hearts within a circle of fellowship. This tradition is megibung, a cultural heritage that transcends mere communal dining but rather weaves feelings of brotherhood and strengthens social bonds.

Introduced by Raja Karangasem I Gusti Agung Anglurah Ketut Karangasem from Karangasem Regency around 1614 Caka or 1692 in the Western calendar, megibung represents a tradition of eating together with rice and side dishes served on banana leaves, adapted from Balinese Hindu culture.

This tradition is also observed by Bali’s Muslim community to strengthen the sense of brotherhood and foster interfaith connection during the holy month of Ramadan.
