JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The United States’ reciprocal tariff policy continues to influence the dynamics of goods shipments from Indonesia. Global logistics company FedEx assesses that the impact is felt in business operators’ decisions.

FedEx Senior Manager Operations Ida Ayu Eka Restini explained that tariffs are imposed when goods enter US territory. This scheme creates new costs in the destination country.

“The US tariffs are actually imposed there, when the goods enter. So it’s not from the shipping side here,” she said in Jakarta on Monday (13/4/2026).

Ida Ayu views tariffs as unavoidable in global trade. Business operators need certainty in information.

“Tariffs cannot be avoided. What customers need is visibility and clear information,” she clarified.

FedEx utilises its position as a US-based company to obtain information more quickly. This information is then conveyed to customers.

“Because we are US-based, the information we get is earlier and clearer. That’s what we pass on to customers,” she said.

Tariff information is translated into practical guidance. FedEx provides a digital system to calculate tariff estimates before shipment.

“We have built a system where customers can input the goods description, then immediately know the tariff estimate before the goods are shipped,” she revealed.

“With technology and automation, tariff information can be provided in advance. So customers can be better prepared,” said Ida Ayu.
