Examination of iCar V23 Design: A Retro-Modern Electric Jeep
JAKARTA – The iCar V23 officially launched in Indonesia at the Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) 2026. The brand represents a new weapon for Chery Group to penetrate the Indonesian market.
After a brief test drive at IIMS 2026, the opportunity arose to test this “electric jeep” more thoroughly over several days. The iCar V23 is the second electric SUV to arrive in Indonesia following the Chery J6.
The iCar V23’s appearance certainly captures attention. Displayed in a striking bright orange colour, the vehicle features a bold boxy style reminiscent of classic off-road vehicles, yet wrapped in modern touches.
The front of the iCar V23 appears distinctive. Round headlights with modern LED graphics serve as the focal point. This design imparts a retro feel whilst remaining futuristic thanks to horizontal lighting elements within. The front grille is designed minimally, with the iCar logo positioned centrally with black accents that merge with horizontal garnishing, creating a clean yet solid appearance.
Moving to the side, the iCar V23’s proportions appear compact. Large overfenders painted to match the body create an impression of width and robustness. Aerodynamic wheels with thick spokes add a modern touch. The design is not overly busy yet sufficiently attractive and harmonious with the electric vehicle character.
The shoulder line runs straight from front to rear, reinforcing an impression of rigidity and toughness. The pillars appear thick, whilst the rear glazing is covered, enhancing the rugged appearance. At the rear, the boxy design is reasserted. The boot door features a flat shape with a box-shaped mount in the centre, resembling a spare wheel housing. This element strengthens the adventurer SUV image, although no open spare wheel is visible.
The rear lights are designed horizontally with simple shapes and modern graphics. The light position merging with the body line gives the rear end a clean appearance. Overall, the iCar V23 successfully combines retro off-road styling with modern touches characteristic of electric vehicles. The boxy design, round lights and tall proportions impart an adventurous aura. On the other hand, LED details, aerodynamic wheels and closed grille emphasise its identity as a contemporary electric car. With this design approach, the iCar V23 not only appears distinctive on the road but also possesses easily recognisable character.
