Ex-UGM Student Body Chair Tiyo Says Those Reporting Him to Police Are Seeking President's Favour

Former Gadjah Mada University (UGM) Student Executive Body (BEM) chair Tiyo Ardiyanto has spoken out after being reported to the police by several parties over accusations of insulting President Prabowo Subianto. Tiyo believes the recent events have been exploited by those seeking to curry favour with the president. “I personally view that this moment is very good for those who want to present their loyalty to President Prabowo,” Tiyo said when met at UGM on Thursday (25/6). “And I think this has been well utilised by those who reported me. So, I hope the President gives the highest appreciation to those who are showing their loyalty.” Tiyo admitted he remains focused on substantive matters and is being cooperative, rather than dwelling on the reports. He also confirmed he has not yet received a police summons. “Our focus is clearly on substantive and strategic matters, especially carrying out our role as critical citizens,” he stated. “Alhamdulillah, despite the reports, we are still travelling around the regions meeting young people and raising political awareness, that today there is a power that we must oversee so that it runs correctly and sides with the people.” It was previously reported that Tiyo was reported by lawyer Firdaus Oiwobo to the South Tangerang Police. He was also reported to the Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) of the National Police by the People’s Movement to Support and Defend Prabowo (Garda Prabowo). Firdaus stated the report concerned the insulting of the President or Head of State. Garda Prabowo’s legal aid chair, Daeng Lukman, said he respects freedom of speech and criticism of government policy as a constitutional right, but assessed that Tiyo’s statements had crossed into defamation and personal attacks against President Prabowo Subianto.
