Ex-prostitutes may work overseas
MATARAM, West Nusa Tenggara: The local office of the Indonesian Ulemas Council (MUI) has endorsed ex-prostitutes to work overseas, as long as they are repentant.
"Many ex-prostitutes who have completed their vocational training program with Budi Rini Social Rehabilitation Center have no idea where to find employment," Hazmi Hamzar, secretary of the West Nusa Tenggara MUI office, told Antara news agency.
The social rehabilitation center offers a three-year vocational training program. Many of its participants have been sent to work in the Middle East, South Korea and Singapore.
West Nusa Tenggara sends some 20,000 workers abroad every year, making it one of Indonesia's biggest labor exporters. The workers send home about Rp 300 billion a year.
