Ex-Lombok Barat Regent's Sentence Reduced to 5 Years in Rp39 Billion Corruption Case
The Supreme Court (MA) has reduced the sentence of former Lombok Barat Regent Zaini Arony in a corruption case involving the operational collaboration for the development and management of Lombok City Center (LCC). His sentence was cut from nine to five years in prison. According to Antara, on Tuesday (26 May 2026), Mataram District Court spokesperson Kelik Trimargo confirmed the sentence reduction based on cassation ruling number 3707 K/PID.SUS/2026. ‘Yes, correct. The details have been published in the Mataram District Court’s Case Tracking System (SIPP),’ he said. In the cassation ruling, the panel of judges led by Jupriyadi rejected the prosecution’s and defendant’s cassation appeals, noting adjustments to the qualification and penalty. The qualification relates to the proof that the defendant’s actions violated the prosecution’s subsidiary charge, namely Article 3 in conjunction with Article 18 of the Anti-Corruption Law and Article 55(1)(1) of the Criminal Code. The cassation panel revised the penalty to five years in prison, a fine of Rp200 million, and two months’ imprisonment if the fine is unpaid. Previously, Zaini was sentenced to six years in prison and a fine of Rp400 million, with four months’ imprisonment for non-payment. His sentence was increased to nine years on appeal. According to detikBali, Zaini Arony was charged with unlawfully enriching himself and others through an asset utilization joint operation between PT Tripat and PT Bliss Pembangunan Sejahtera (PT Bliss Group), causing the state a loss of Rp39 billion. The corruption case involving the abandoned shopping centre occurred during Zaini’s tenure as regent in 2013. Zaini was previously imprisoned in a separate extortion case involving Rp1.4 billion from potential investors. He was sentenced to seven years in prison and released in 2022.
