Jakarta – Former Foreign Minister Hassan Wirajuda said President Prabowo Subianto will evaluate Indonesia’s membership in the Board of Peace (BoP) in light of the escalation of the conflict between the United States, Israel and Iran.

The remarks were made after a meeting with President Prabowo and former presidents and vice presidents at the Merdeka Palace in Central Jakarta on Tuesday night, 3 March 2026.

Hassan said the evaluation of Indonesia’s membership in the BoP is necessary given the dynamics of the situation on the ground continues to develop.

The government will consider several aspects, including funding commitments and Indonesia’s troop deployments, which have long been described as among the largest in the mission.

‘The decision is not yet made. He will surely evaluate and make the right decision at the right time,’ Hassan said, quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, 4 March 2026.

Regarding the possibility of Indonesia leaving the BoP, Hassan said the President has not ruled out the option if the mission is deemed no longer aligned with its initial objectives, or its success is diminishing.

Hassan said the President has from the outset emphasised that Indonesia has the right to withdraw if the BoP mission’s vision no longer aligns with the 1945 Constitution.

With the attacks carried out by the United States and Israel against Iran, Hassan continued, this could weaken the BoP’s chances of success.

‘The President says we will assess to what extent the BoP will continue to carry out its mission. If not, we will withdraw; that is very clear; he does not hide it,’ he said.
