Ex-Deputy Minister Noel Ebenezer's Defence Plea Read Today

JAKARTA — Former Deputy Minister of Labour Immanuel Ebenezer, also known as Noel, is set to deliver his defence plea in a case involving alleged extortion related to occupational safety and health (K3) certification at the Jakarta Corruption Court on Monday, 25 May 2026.

“Judge Nur Sari Baktiana stated: ‘The panel of judges has allotted time for the defendants and their lawyers to present their defence on Monday, 25 May 2026.’ The agenda was set after the public prosecutor read the prosecution’s sentencing request against the defendants during the hearing on 18 May 2026.

“Previously, during witness examinations, Judge Nur Sari Baktiana expressed regret over Noel’s involvement in the case, noting his previously positive public reputation during his tenure at the Ministry of Labour. ‘Your legacy is being eroded, washed away, and lost. It could have been a true legacy. It is truly regrettable,’ she said.

“The judge also referenced public reactions to Noel’s policies as deputy minister, including his handling of the return of workers’ diplomas withheld by companies. ‘The panel has only recently learned of many who are grateful to you due to media coverage. There are numerous public narratives and netizens commenting on this trial. May these be your good deeds,’ Nur Sari added.

“During the hearing, the judge advised Noel to detail his contributions during his tenure in his defence statement. ‘Sir, in your defence, outline your contributions. Even though your tenure was less than a year, there were certainly steps you took that left a positive mark on society,’ she added.”
