Ex-councillors quizzed over graft case
PADANG, West Sumatra: Two convicted councillors were questioned
on Wednesday over Rp 6.4 billion (US$680,851) allegedly embezzled
by West Sumatra Governor Zainal Bakar.
The two councillors in question were Arwan Kasri, the former
chairman of the West Sumatra Legislative Council and Marfendi, a
former councillor of the same council.
The councillors were sentenced to 27 and 24 months in prison
respectively, but still walked free pending an appeal with the
Supreme Court. Emerging from the questioning session on Wednesday
at the West Sumatra Prosecutor's Office, both former councillors
were tightlipped over the substance of the questioning. -- JP
