Indonesia’s esports industry has advanced considerably with increasingly prestigious and globally-scaled competitions, according to Evos Esports Managing Director Chaya Wahyuni Kusuma. The progression has driven growing interest and community participation in the sector.

“The industry is now very advanced, with competitions at international level. Previously, competitions were run by developers alone, but now we have the Esports World Cup (EWC), with all nations participating. The prestige is definitely higher now,” said Chaya.

These comments were made during celebrations of eight years of collaboration between Evos and Pop Mie in Jakarta on Thursday, 26 February. The partnership, which commenced in 2018, is described as more than a commercial relationship, rather as an effort to build a sustainable esports ecosystem.

Chaya views the long-term sponsorship collaboration as part of a shared commitment to continuously develop young esports talent in Indonesia. Over the past eight years, various programmes have been launched, including the Campus Gaming Ground tournament targeting university students across several campuses in the greater Jakarta area. The initiative was designed to bring esports closer to young people whilst expanding the community base.

Campuses already visited include the University of Indonesia, Universitas Pembangunan Nasional Veteran Jakarta, Universitas Esa Unggul, Universitas Mercu Buana, Universitas Muhammadiyah Tangerang and Universitas Budi Luhur.

This year, the Campus Gaming Ground programme is being expanded beyond the Jakarta metropolitan area to reach esports talent in regional cities. The programme will tour selected campuses across the country.

“This year we want to take gaming ground activities more to secondary cities and into smaller communities, to grassroots level for smaller tournaments but at community level,” said Pop Mie Senior Brand Manager Antonius Pandu.

In 2026, Evos is also collaborating with local artist Arkiv Vilmansa to design merchandise for the organisation.
