The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has named Tulungagung Regent Gatut Sunu Wibowo and his aide Dwi Yoga Ambal, known as YOG, as suspects in the extortion of officials from local government offices (OPD) in Tulungagung Regency. The KPK secured evidence of extortion, including luxury shoes and cash amounting to hundreds of millions of rupiah.

“From this undercover investigation, the team also secured evidence in the form of documents, electronic evidence (BBE), several pairs of Louis Vuitton brand shoes, and cash worth Rp 335.4 million,” said KPK Deputy for Enforcement and Execution Asep Guntur Rahayu during a press conference at the KPK in Jakarta on Saturday (11 April 2026).

The LV shoes purchased from the extortion proceeds by Regent Sunu number four pairs. Asep stated that these four pairs of shoes are worth hundreds of millions of rupiah.

“Besides for personal use, the shoes are quite expensive; after we checked, they turned out to be Rp 129 million,” said Asep.

Asep said that Regent Sunu is alleged to have received Rp 2.7 billion from the extortion activities. Meanwhile, a total of Rp 5 billion was extorted by Regent Sunu from his officials.

“The cash of Rp 335.5 million is part of the Rp 2.7 billion that GSW (Gatut Sunu Wibowo) is alleged to have received (from a demand of Rp 5 billion),” he stated.

The Rp 5 billion represents the target ‘share’ set by Regent Sunu from extorting 16 OPDs. The extortion was carried out directly by his aide Dwi Yoga Ambal.

“From the total demand by GSW to the OPDs, at least Rp 5 billion, the realisation of money received by GSW is approximately Rp 2.7 billion,” Guntur explained.

Regent Gatut was named a suspect along with Dwi Yoga Ambal, who serves as the regent’s aide-de-camp (ADC). Regent Gatut has been immediately detained for the first 20 days.

“The KPK will subsequently detain the suspects for the first 20 days from 11 to 30 April 2026. The detention will take place at the KPK’s Red and White Building Branch State Detention Centre,” Asep clarified.

Gatut is also alleged to have arranged vendors for the procurement of medical equipment at the regional general hospital (RSUD), by assigning a vendor to win the tender. Additionally, he is suspected of arranging for his associate to win the tender for cleaning service and security provision.

For their actions, the suspects are charged with committing corruption offences as stipulated in Article 12 letter e or Article 12B of Law No. 31 of 1999 on the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption, as amended by Law No. 20 of 2001 on the eradication of corruption crimes, joined with Article 20 letter c of Law No. 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code.
