Evicted children get library
JAKARTA: Children in Muara Angke, most of whom are victims of evictions, got a mini-library on Friday containing more than 100 children's books from British-based PT Wood Group Indonesia (WGI).
The mini-library can be folded into a more portable form and has wheels so it can be pushed around the neighborhood.
"We handed the library to Jalari social foundation," WGI president director Said Achmad said during the handing over ceremony, which was also attended by WGI general manager Mike Godwin. "The foundation will manage the library's daily operations."
Said added that WGI also donated staple food sufficient for 5,000 people to the evictees.
"We have also distributed 430 education packages for children of pre-school and elementary school ages. The value of the entire relief package is 1,500 pounds (US$2,700)," he said.
"Our headquarters in Aberdeen (Britain) allocates special funds for charity. This is our second charity program in Indonesia."
WGI is a service company working on maintenance and operation of offshore platforms of oil and gas companies like Anglo- American BP PLC. -- JP
