Ever been to sea?
JAKARTA (JP): Some 300 junior and high school students are participating in a five-day discipline course conducted by the Navy on a warship that set sail from Jakarta on its way to Lampung yesterday.
The journey that started from Tanjung Priok harbor is aimed at promoting the "maritime spirit" among youngsters.
The students were shipped off in a ceremony led by the Navy's Western Fleet commander Rear Admiral Widodo AS. Their parents were also present.
"They (the students) are expected to learn more about our marine potential and the role of the sea in security and defense," Widodo was quoted by Antara as saying.
The five-day oceanology course is taking place on warship Teluk Tomini. Basic knowledge about warships will be one of the subjects covered.
"On the ship, the students will learn more about discipline, such as cleanliness and work ethics," Widodo said. (pan)
