Event Organiser Apologises After Tangsel Fun Walk & Run Chaos Draws Protests
The Tangsel Fun Walk and Run event was met with a flood of protests from participants and was marred by chaos during its execution. The event organiser has now issued an apology for the disruption. The apology was delivered by a man named Ditya, the responsible committee chairman for the South Tangsel Fun Walk and Run Festival 2026 at ITC BSD, via the event’s Instagram account, @funwalkfestival. “I sincerely apologise to all parties involved, including participants, the South Tangerang City Government, ITC BSD as the venue, and the sponsors who joined this event,” Ditya said on Monday (3/8/2026). He stated that the execution of the event was his responsibility and that no other parties were involved. “Through this statement, I acknowledge that everything that happened is entirely my responsibility as the event organiser,” he said, adding that “ITC BSD was not involved in the organisation, it was only the start and finish location.” He reiterated his apology for the chaotic event, which will be used as evaluation material, and noted that participants can still receive their event medals. “For participants who have not received their medals, you can directly DM the Instagram account funwalkfestival by sending a photo of your BIB,” he said. The South Tangerang City Government had previously issued a clarification via its official Instagram account, stating the running event was not an activity organised by them. “In connection with the circulation of information in the community linking the activity to the South Tangerang City Government, we hereby emphasise that the Tangsel Fun Run & Walk was fully organised by the event organiser and is not an official programme or activity of the South Tangerang City Government or the Youth and Sports Agency,” the statement read. The city government stated that activities held by third parties are their responsibility and urged the public to verify official information through government channels. Deputy Mayor Pilar Saga stated the organiser would no longer be granted permits to hold events in South Tangerang and demanded accountability. “For the committee/organiser of the private event that used the name of Tangsel City and included the logo of the city government and the sports agency, they will no longer be granted permits and will be summoned by the agency to be held accountable immediately,” Pilar Saga wrote on his Instagram account.
