Evaluation Meeting on 2026 Mudik, Commission V of DPR Appreciates Decline in Accident Figures
The Chairman of Commission V of the DPR, Lasarus, has appreciated the decline in traffic accident figures during the implementation of the 2026 Lebaran mudik. He assessed that this achievement demonstrates improvements in coordination between ministries and agencies.
This was conveyed by Lasarus during a working meeting with the Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of Public Works and Housing, National Police Traffic Directorate, BMKG, and Basarnas, at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday (13/4/2026). Lasarus stated that based on the data he received, the number of mudik travellers in 2026 was recorded at 147.55 million people, or a decrease of 4.57%.
“This year’s mudik flow experienced a decline compared to the previous year, with Indonesian societal mobility at 147.55 million people, or down 4.57% from 2025’s 154.62 million people,” said Lasarus.
This PDIP politician stated that according to data from the National Police Traffic Directorate, from 13-25 March, there was a recorded decline in accident figures. He said the decrease in accidents was 5.3% compared to 2025.
“There was a decrease of 153 accident cases, or down 5.3% from the previous year. In 2025, there were 2,880 incidents recorded, whereas the decline in 2026 became 2,727 incidents,” he stated.
Meanwhile, data from the Ministry of Transportation for the period H-8 to H+8 of Lebaran or 13-29 March 2026 also shows a similar trend. The number of accidents was recorded at 3,517 cases or down 6.31% compared to 2025’s 3,754 cases.
“We can applaud the government, yes. We give our appreciation, especially to all those who have worked tirelessly in the field, yes, those who even sacrificed their victory day not with their beloved families,” he said.
Lasarus appreciated all parties involved in the security and smooth running of the 2026 Lebaran mudik, including the performance of the Traffic Directorate led by Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho and his team. According to him, the decline in accident figures serves as an indicator that cross-sector coordination is improving.
“On behalf of the leadership and all members of Commission V of the DPR RI, we give our highest appreciation for the sacrifices made by all individuals from all stakeholders, both the Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of Public Works, National Police Traffic Directorate, then from Basarnas, BMKG, and all stakeholders operating in the transportation sector; we give our highest appreciation,” he stated.
“Commission V of the DPR RI sees that the decline in the number of incidents and the number of accident victims has experienced a significant decrease. This shows that coordination between ministries/agencies has improved,” he added.
