Evaluation is too early
Evaluation is too early
President Megawati Soekarnoputri has not yet reached her 100th
day in office, yet her government's performance is already being
evaluated.
Among the criticisms raised on her government's performance is
its lack of seriousness in combatting corruption, collusion and
cronyism. Not a single person who had committed these practices
has been brought to court.
Concern was also expressed over Megawati's economic team,
which they said have not yet shown a good performance. One of
the indicators is the prolonged weakening of the rupiah, which is
still more than 10,000 to the U.S. dollar.
Evaluating a government is part of a country's democratic
rights. Nothing is wrong with that. However, it is too early
for us to evaluate Megawati's government.
Until Tuesday, Megawati has been in office for only 74 days,
including holidays. Why 100 days? It is believed that 100 days
are enough time for a leader to make adjustments.
But still it is not fair if we judge Megawati too soon.
Moreover, her time has been spent facing various upheavals in
society, like anti-U.S. radicalism.
