European Union Warns of Severe Crisis in Eastern Congo
The conflict between the military of the Democratic Republic of Congo and the M23 rebel group in the eastern region has intensified once again, worsening a humanitarian crisis that has persisted for years.
European Commissioner Hadja Lahbib described the situation as “catastrophic,” but the leader of the coalition allied with M23, Corneille Nangaa, disputed this assessment, arguing that the worst conditions are in fact found in government-controlled territories, amid mutual accusations of ceasefire violations.
