EU upgrades its mission in Indonesia

JAKARTA (JP): The European Commission has upgraded the official designation of its diplomatic mission in Indonesia from a representation to a delegation.

In a statement here on Friday, the commission said the change took effect on Tuesday, coinciding with the European Union's 50th anniversary.

The commission said that the upgrading would enable the EU to give further support to Indonesia's democratization and reform processes.

"The EU is committed to forging a deeper relationship with the Indonesian administration," the commission said.

The commission first established a fully fledged diplomatic mission here in 1988. It is also accredited to Singapore and Brunei.(08)
