The European Union (EU) is likely to review the mandate of its naval operation in the Red Sea if the Houthi movement in Yemen resumes attacks on commercial ships in the area.

“If the situation changes (if attacks resume), discussions on the mandate can always be held,” reported the Euractiv news portal on Monday (30/3), quoting an unnamed diplomat.

However, it added that it is still too early to discuss any specific changes.

Europe faces growing pressure to expand the Red Sea mission to the Persian Gulf amid political demands related to surging oil and gas prices, according to the Euractiv report.

Nevertheless, EU leaders are concerned that military intervention could drag the bloc into a regional conflict.

On Saturday (28/3), the Houthi group launched rockets at Israel for the first time since the escalation in the Persian Gulf area.

Houthi military spokesman, Brig Gen Yahya Saree, said the group would continue targeting Israel until it halts its operations in Iran and Lebanon.

On 28 February, the United States and Israel launched attacks on several targets in Iran, including Tehran, causing damage and civilian casualties. Iran then responded by attacking Israeli territory and US military facilities in the Middle East.

The Yemen Ansar Allah movement or Houthis attacked Israel with missiles for the second time in a day and will continue the attacks until Israel stops its assaults on Iran and Lebanon.

That statement was delivered by Houthi military spokesman Brig Gen Yahya Saree on Saturday.

“We conducted a second military operation as part of the Holy Jihad War using cruise missiles and drones,” Saree said to Al Masirah TV channel.

“This operation targeted several key enemy Zionist military targets in the occupied southern Palestine region,” he added.

He further stated that the Houthis would continue military operations in the coming days until the criminal enemy halts its aggression against Iran and Lebanon.

Yemen’s Houthi militias have officially joined the war by launching ballistic missiles at southern Israel. The IDF claims to have successfully intercepted the attack targeting the Beer Sheba area.

Houthi leader Abdul-Malik al-Houthi affirmed full support for Iran against US-Israeli aggression. The 2026 conflict is heating up, with the Houthis ready to face any developments.
