EU lifts duty on RI yarn
JAKARTA (JP): The European Union has lifted a 11.9 percent anti-dumping duty, which was imposed in 1992, on imports of certain Indonesian polyester yarn, an industry source said yesterday.
S.K. Agrawal, an executive advisor to PT Sulindafin Permai Spinning Mills, told The Jakarta Post that the European Union, after investigating a number of Indonesian producers of polyester yarn in 1994, has decided to abolish the anti-dumping duty because its dumping charge was not proved.
The European Union said in Council Regulation No. 1168/95, dated May 22, 1995, that no duties shall apply to imports of certain polyester yarns or man-made staple fibers produced by PT Kewalram Indonesia, PT Bitratex Industrial Corp., PT Elegant Textile Industry, PT Kanindo Success Textile Industries, PT Indorama Synthetics, PT Lotus Indah Textile Industries, PT Sulindafin Permai Spinning Mills and PT Sunrise Bumi Textiles.
"With this positive development, our products would be more competitive in the EU market and this would certainly give a tremendous impetus to exports of textile products from Indonesia to the European Union," Agrawal commented.(riz)
