EU Condemns Attack on UN Troops in Lebanon
Moscow (ANTARA) - The European Union has condemned the recent attack on United Nations (UN) troops in Lebanon and called for a thorough investigation into the incident, according to EU Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Anouar El Anouni on Tuesday (31/3). “We, the European Union, condemn the attack that resulted in the death of a UNIFIL (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon) peacekeeper and injured several others. We also condemn the attacks targeting the French contingent in recent days,” Anouni said during a European Commission press conference. He added that the UN has called for a thorough investigation to uncover the truth behind these serious attacks. “These attacks constitute a grave violation of international law, are completely unacceptable, and must be stopped immediately,” he stated. UNIFIL reported the death of an Indonesian soldier serving in the peacekeeping force on Sunday (29/3) due to a projectile strike on his position. On Monday (30/3), UNIFIL again reported two of its members killed in an attack on their patrol vehicle in the Bani Haiyyan area.
