EU Asserts Attack on Iran's Energy Infrastructure is Illegal
The President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, has asserted that attacks on Iran’s energy infrastructure constitute illegal and unacceptable actions. This statement was made via the platform X on Monday (6/4). “After five weeks of war in the Middle East, it is clear that only a diplomatic solution can address the root of the problem. Any attack on civilian infrastructure, particularly energy facilities, is illegal and unacceptable… The Iranian civilian population is the main victim of the Iranian regime,” Costa stated. In addition to affirming that every attack on Iran’s energy infrastructure is illegal and unacceptable, he advocated for resolving the Middle East conflict through diplomatic channels. Costa added that escalation in the region will not bring peace. The European Union also urged Iran to halt attacks on neighbouring countries and to allow full freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. “Escalation will not lead to a ceasefire or peace. Only negotiations can achieve that, particularly through efforts currently led by regional partners,” Costa emphasised. The European Union reaffirmed its commitment to promoting diplomatic solutions to reduce tensions and protect the civilian population in the Middle East.
