Moscow (ANTARA) – The Council of the European Union has allocated €4.7 billion (around Rp94.92 trillion) to compensate member states that have supplied weapons to Ukraine.

In an official statement on Monday (26 July), the Council said it had approved eight decisions enabling the funds to be disbursed under the European Peace Facility (EPF).

“These decisions enable the partial reimbursement through the EPF of the costs of military assistance already provided by member states, totalling €4.7 billion,” the statement said.

In addition to compensating countries for weapons procurement, the EU has allocated €230 million (Rp4.64 trillion) to fund the EU Military Assistance Mission (EUMAM), which supports Ukraine.

With the additional funding, total EU support for Ukraine under the EPF has reached €10.8 billion (Rp218.11 trillion). This includes €9.9 billion (Rp199.93 trillion) to reimburse member states for military assistance and €950 million (Rp19.18 trillion) for military training programmes through EUMAM.

Russia, meanwhile, has repeatedly argued that Western countries’ arms supplies to Ukraine hinder a resolution to the conflict and draw NATO member states into the confrontation.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has previously warned that any shipment carrying weapons to Ukraine would be considered a legitimate military target by Russia.
