EU agrees to ban AI 'nudification' applications
Moscow (ANTARA) - The European Parliament and the Council of the European Union have reached an agreement to ban AI applications that generate explicit sexual content, according to the European Commission.
“The European Commission welcomes the political agreement reached today between the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union on simpler and innovation-friendly rules for artificial intelligence…,” the Commission said in a statement on Thursday (7/5).
“This agreement also strengthens protections for citizens. It bans AI systems that generate explicit and intimate sexual content without consent or child sexual abuse material, such as AI ‘nudification’ applications,” it added.
These measures are part of the Digital Omnibus package of amendments to the Artificial Intelligence Act.
Among other things, the measures aim to set clear deadlines for implementing rules for critical AI systems and to simplify requirements for businesses using AI technology, the statement added.
The European Parliament and the Council must now formally approve the agreement, after which the amendments will be published in the Official Journal of the European Union. The amendments will take effect three days later.
