Etiquette for Charging Electric Vehicles at Public Charging Stations
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The increasing use of electrified vehicles in Indonesia means that zero-emission vehicle users need to be aware of the proper etiquette when using Public Electric Vehicle Charging Station (SP_KLU) facilities.
The General Chairman of the Indonesian Electric Car Community (Koleksi), Arwani Hidayat, stated that education on etiquette must be supported by firm policies and regulation enforcement from service providers to protect the rights of all users.
“The continuously growing charging infrastructure will not have a maximum impact if it is not accompanied by an orderly user culture. Koleksi is proactively releasing this guide as a form of moral responsibility from the grassroots,” Arwani said in an official statement on Sunday.
The guide divides the procedures for using SPKLU into three stages, from queuing to the completion of the charging process.
Before charging, users are advised to monitor the availability of machines and port status through service provider applications, such as PLN Mobile. If a queuing system is in place, users need to scan a barcode or QR Code to obtain a digital queue number.
Users are also prohibited from using charging bays as parking spaces when not actively charging. While charging, vehicles must be parked precisely within the marked lines and must not obstruct access for other users. Users who leave their vehicles are advised to display a telephone number on the dashboard so they can be easily contacted if any issues arise.
During fast charging or DC Fast Charging, users are encouraged to observe ‘The 80 per cent Rule’ when there are long queues. To maintain order and mutual safety, users are forbidden from unplugging another vehicle’s connector without the owner’s permission. Once charging is complete, the vehicle should be moved within a maximum of 5 to 10 minutes.
The nozzle must then be returned and locked into its holder. Charging cables also need to be tidied up so they do not lie on the asphalt, as they can be damaged if run over by vehicles.
Furthermore, the cleanliness of the charging bay must be maintained by not leaving litter. Koleksi also encourages service providers to implement sanctions, such as idle fees and account blocking, for users who misuse SPKLU facilities.
