Ethics Hearing Held for Gerindra Legislator Who Played Games and Smoked During Meeting
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Gerindra Party’s Honour Council held an ethics hearing for Achmad Syahri Assidiqi, a member of the Jember DPRD, who went viral for playing games and smoking during a meeting.
The hearing was held behind closed doors to the public, on Friday (15/5/2026).
“Okay, let’s begin the examination. The hearing of the Gerindra Party’s Honour Council is now open and closed to the public,” said the Chairman of the Hearing, M Maulana Bungaran, when opening the ethics hearing on Friday.
After the hearing was opened, the media were asked to leave the hearing room so that the internal examination could take place behind closed doors.
Kompas.com observed that Syahri entered the hearing room at around 2:00 p.m. accompanied by the Chairman of the Gerindra Jember DPC, Ahmad Halim.
He was wearing a white safari shirt and cream-coloured trousers, which are the hallmarks of the Gerindra Party’s uniform.
The hearing took place in the meeting room of the Gerindra Party’s DPP and was chaired by the Chairman of the Hearing, M Maulana Bungaran.
When opening the hearing, Maulana explained that the hearing was held to follow up on reports and viral videos related to the behaviour of the Gerindra legislator from Jember during a meeting to discuss stunting.
“In order to resolve this case or problem, the Gerindra Party’s Honour Council needs to take immediate action based on the applicable laws and regulations through the hearing of the Gerindra Party’s DPP Honour Council,” he said.
Before the examination began, Maulana first checked the attendance of those attending the hearing.
Maulana then confirmed the presence of Achmad Syahri Assidiqi as a member of the Gerindra Party and a member of the Gerindra faction of the Jember Regency DPRD.
“Secondly, based on this attendance list, Mr. Ahmad Syahri As-Siddiqi, a Bachelor of Economics, is present. Is that correct? A member of the Gerindra Party, a member of the Gerindra Party faction of the Jember Regency DPRD. Is that correct, sir?” said Maulana.
“Yes,” replied Syahri.
