Ethics Council Urges ORI Selection Panel to Seek Information from the Attorney General's Office During Selection
Jakarta – The Ethics Council of the Ombudsman Republic of Indonesia (ORI) has asked the Selection Committee (Pansel) to coordinate with the Attorney General’s Office to trace the track records of prospective members in the upcoming selection process.
Ombudsman RI Ethics Council member Jimly Asshiddiqie said information from the Attorney General’s Office is essential to determine the track records of Ombudsman candidates, particularly regarding criminal acts of corruption.
‘Same as the KPK also handles corruption crimes. Well, why not request this from the Attorney General’s Office?’ he said during an Open Information Request agenda by the Ombudsman RI Ethics Council in Jakarta, on Friday.
The request for information from the Attorney General’s Office about candidates, he said, is needed so that the case of the Ombudsman Chair who is inactive, Hery Susanto, who is involved in a nickel corruption case, does not recur.
Moreover, he added, the Pansel had previously learned of one of the applicants who is also an incumbent like Hery, who had been involved in a corruption case.
