Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ethics Council of the Indonesian Ombudsman (ORI) states that Hery Susanto could be dishonourably dismissed from his position as ORI Chairman, as the most severe ethical sanction for the alleged corruption case against him.

Ethics Council member Jimly Asshiddiqie explained that there are several types of ethical sanctions that will be imposed on the inactive ORI Chairman, ranging from the mildest to the most severe.

“We will first conduct an examination of the individual concerned. We will hear everyone before imposing sanctions,” Jimly said during a press conference in Jakarta on Friday.

The parties whose testimonies will be heard, he said, include the complainant, parties with interests in the case, the Prosecutor’s Office, and the Selection Committee (Pansel) for the Selection of ORI Members for the 2026-2031 period.

In addition, he added that there is also the selection committee and the selection process in the House of Representatives (DPR) RI.

“We will also hear various relevant parties as necessary until finally the decision is hopefully completed within 30 days, in line with the given target,” he said.

Jimly revealed the various sanctions that could be imposed, including verbal reprimands, Honourable Dismissal, and Dishonourable Dismissal (PTDH).

“But that is one of them; if the criminal process could take 3 years, the Ombudsman would be battered, it’s pitiful to wait for a decision with no certainty. So there are many other reasons, one of which is that the individual is proven to no longer meet the requirements,” Jimly said.

He also hopes that the various steps taken by the ethics council will ultimately restore public trust in the ORI, as one of the purposes of establishing the council.

The newly formed ORI Ethics Council consists of three external members: Prof. Bagir Manan, Prof. Jimly Asshiddiqie, and Prof. Siti Zuhro, as well as two internal ORI members: Maneger Nasution and Partono Samino.
