The Ombudsman’s Ethics Council has decided to impose severe sanctions on the Chairman of the Ombudsman, Hery Susanto, resulting in his dismissal from the position.

“It has been proven that he committed serious violations of the code of ethics and conduct for Ombudsman personnel. We are imposing a heavy-level sanction, namely dishonourable discharge from his position as Chairman and member of the Ombudsman for the 2026-2031 term,” stated Partono, a member of the Ombudsman Ethics Council, during a press conference at the Ombudsman Building on Monday (8/6/2026).

The Ethics Council will issue an official letter to President Prabowo Subianto regarding Hery’s dishonourable dismissal. The Council expressed hope that President Prabowo will promptly issue a Presidential Decree (Keppres) for Hery’s permanent removal.

In its deliberations, the Ethics Council noted that Hery refused to apologise or resign despite requests from fellow Ombudsman members following the emergence of his legal case. The Council further stated that Hery was proven to have engaged in disgraceful conduct that impacted the integrity and dignity of the Ombudsman.

Additionally, the Council noted that Hery was unable to perform his duties for three consecutive months due to his detention by the Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung), rendering him unqualified to serve as an Ombudsman member. “Hery Susanto is confirmed to have been unable to carry out his duties and obligations for three continuous months,” said Partono.

Previously, the Attorney General’s Office detained Hery Susanto as a suspect in a bribery case involving nickel mining governance spanning 2013-2025. Hery is alleged to have received bribes totalling Rp 1.5 billion.

“The suspect received a sum of money from Mr LKM, who is the director of PT TSHI. The amount handed over by this individual is approximately Rp 1.5 billion,” said the Director of the Special Crimes Division of the Attorney General’s Office, Syarief Sulaeman Nahdi, during a press conference in South Jakarta on Thursday (16/4/2026).

Hery faces charges under Articles 12 (a) and (b), Article 5 of the Anti-Corruption Law, and Article 606 of the Criminal Code. Hery allegedly managed issues regarding the calculation of Non-Tax State Revenue (PNBP) for PT TSHI. The company is suspected of requesting Hery to arrange for the Ombudsman to correct the PNBP calculations.

The Attorney General’s Office has also arrested the owner and President Director of PT Toshida Indonesia, Laode Sinarwan Oda (LS). LS has been named a suspect in the alleged bribery of Hery Susanto regarding the nickel mining governance corruption case in Southeast Sulawesi for the 2013-2025 period.
