Estrada says critics "crazy"

MANILA (AFP): Philippine President Joseph Estrada said on Tuesday that a signature campaign launched to force him to reform or quit was cooked up by "crazy people."

A civic movement led by several former government officials with an exclamation mark as its symbol was launched on Monday as a "silent protest" to reflect dissatisfaction with his 21 month- old leadership.

The former movie star saw his popularity plunge last year, but on Tuesday an independent polling firm issued the results of a March nationwide survey which suggested his rating was bottoming out.

Forty three percent of respondents of the Social Weather Stations survey said they were satisfied with his performance while 38 percent said otherwise. The numbers were virtually unchanged from December.
