Estonia is continuing to assert its business expansion steps in Southeast Asia by bringing a delegation of maritime and technology companies to Indonesia. The visit, which took place on 27–28 April 2026, is part of efforts to strengthen bilateral relations while opening new cooperation opportunities in the maritime, logistics, and digital innovation sectors.

The business delegation consists of several key Estonian companies and institutions, such as 5.0 Robotics, Cybernetica, Insta Globe Engineering, SRC Estonia, Port of Tallinn, Tallinn University of Technology, Varcus Solutions, Dipperfox, and MindChip. Their presence reflects Estonia’s focus on developing maritime technology, digital infrastructure, engineering, and innovation-based solutions.

One of the key agendas in this visit is the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Cybernetica and PT MultiIntegra Technology Group. The agreement serves as an initial foundation for exploring the development of digital maritime infrastructure and strengthening cybersecurity systems in Indonesia.

Cybernetica itself brings a long track record in Indonesia, particularly in coastal surveillance, maritime cybersecurity, and vessel traffic management systems. Meanwhile, technology companies like MindChip introduced AI-based autonomous vessels that are claimed to enhance operational efficiency and safety in the maritime sector.

On the other hand, Insta Globe Engineering and SRC Group offer ship retrofitting solutions, electrification, and alternative fuels as part of the push for decarbonisation in the shipping industry. These efforts are seen as aligned with the energy transformation agenda and carbon emission reductions in the maritime transport sector.

In terms of port and logistics management, Port of Tallinn shared experiences in developing smart digital ports and infrastructure optimisation. Meanwhile, research and innovation capacity is represented by the Marine Technology Competence Centre (MARTE) under Tallinn University of Technology, which focuses on applied maritime technology development and autonomous systems.

The series of visits by the Estonian delegation was also filled with high-level government-to-government (G2G) and business-to-business (B2B) meetings with several key Indonesian stakeholders, ranging from Pelindo, Pertamina, Pelni, the Indonesian National Ship Owners’ Association (INSA), to the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN). Discussions focused on collaboration opportunities in port management, smart logistics, maritime safety, cybersecurity, and sustainable infrastructure development.

The highlight of the visit agenda is the organisation of the Indonesia Estonia Maritime Business Forum on 28 April 2026, which brought together more than 100 participants from government, industry, and academia. This forum serves as a strategic space to connect business actors from both countries, present technologies, and discuss concrete investment and cooperation opportunities.

Estonia’s Minister of Infrastructure, Kuldar Leis, emphasised that the forum is designed as a strategic bridge between the private sectors of Indonesia and Estonia.

“The Estonia Maritime Delegation Forum is designed as a bridge between the private sectors of both countries. By bringing together government representatives and industry players, we are opening up real collaboration opportunities,” said Kuldar Leis.

According to him, strengthening business-to-business cooperation is an important element in accelerating the flow of innovation, knowledge exchange, and cross-border investment.

“Strengthening business-to-business (B2B) engagement is very important so that innovation, knowledge exchange, and investment can flow between the two countries, and provide mutual economic benefits,” he said.

Estonia positions itself as one of Europe’s maritime excellence centres with a sustainable, secure, and innovative industrial ecosystem. Support for digital technology, commitment to sustainability, and a collaborative business climate are the main assets of that country in expanding international partnerships.

For Indonesia, this collaboration is considered strategic in line with the government’s ambitions to accelerate digitalisation in the maritime sector, strengthen cybersecurity, and develop more efficient and sustainable port infrastructure.

With a focus on digital transformation, green technology, maritime innovation, smart cities, education, and e-governance, the Estonia–Indonesia business forum becomes a concrete step to convert shared interests into long-term partnerships with economic value.

This delegation visit also reaffirms Estonia’s commitment to supporting the transformation of Indonesia’s maritime sector through innovative and sustainable solutions, while paving the way for the expansion of Estonian companies’ businesses in the Southeast Asian market.
