SOLO, KOMPAS.com - A calculation of mudik costs using the electric car BYD Atto 1 covers toll charges and charging. Interestingly, the car’s range is only 300-380 kilometres, which presents a challenge when using it for a mudik along the Jakarta–Semarang route.

As a City Car, the BYD Atto 1 measures 3,925 mm in length, 1,720 mm in width, and 1,590 mm in height, with a ground clearance of 155 mm and a wheelbase of 2,500 mm.

The Atto 1 is equipped with a 55 kW electric motor delivering 135 Nm of torque. Acceleration from 0–50 km/h is claimed to be completed in 4.9 seconds, with a top speed of 130 km/h.

Based on the above claims, the Atto 1’s power consumption is about 10 km per kWh, while according to tests conducted by the editorial team previously, it is around 8.5 km per kWh. Differences in energy consumption are normal as traffic conditions, driving style, and load weight can influence it.

Given the Jakarta–Semarang reference route via the Trans-Java Toll Road, the distance is around 450 kilometres. This means, if the BYD Atto 1’s battery is fully charged at home, there is a possibility of needing to recharge en route.

According to latest data, there are 53 rest areas on the Trans-Java Toll Road equipped with SPKLU charging points of various power ratings. Ranging from alternating current (AC) charging to direct current (DC) fast charging. This allows users to adjust charging needs according to the journey and the vehicle’s battery capacity.

Non-subsidised household electricity tariff currently sits around Rp 1,400–1,700 per kWh. Meanwhile, SPKLU DC fast charging tariffs, such as PLN, Voltron, are around Rp 2,466.74 per kWh.

To cover a distance of 450 kilometres, with an average consumption of 8.5 km per kWh, you would need roughly 52.9 kWh, or two battery recharges. The Atto 1 battery is available in 30.8 kWh and 38.8 kWh options.

This route traverses major toll roads such as Jakarta–Cikampek, Cipali, and Batang–Semarang, with Class I toll costs estimated around Rp 421,500.

Thus, the total toll and electricity cost ranges from Rp 553,853 to Rp 611,500, excluding other expenses such as meals, SPKLU service charges, and other accommodations.
