JAKARTA – The Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandha has confirmed the readiness of infrastructure and transportation services to handle the 2026 Eid holiday travel period.

Dudy estimates that public mobility will reach 50.6 per cent of Indonesia’s total population, or approximately 143.91 million people. This figure is slightly lower than the 2025 Eid travel survey estimate of around 146 million people.

“However, in actual realisation, the number of people travelling during 2025 reached 154 million,” Dudy stated in an official statement on Thursday, 12 March 2026. “This demonstrates that public mobility during the Eid period tends to exceed the figures estimated in surveys.”

The preparations encompass the readiness of land, sea, air and ferry transport infrastructure and facilities. Vehicle safety inspections are also being conducted ahead of the Eid travel season.

The government is also preparing economic stimulus measures including discounted fares for aeroplanes, ships, trains and ferries. Free mudik programmes are also being arranged. The work-from-anywhere (WFA) policy is also being implemented to reduce travel congestion.

Other measures include traffic engineering, deployment of additional vehicle fleets, and operational arrangements for freight transport vehicles. The Transport Ministry is implementing a digital-based monitoring system during the Eid travel period.

“Monitoring also encompasses weather forecasts and early warnings from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysical Agency, as well as surveillance through 7,159 CCTV cameras in collaboration with local governments, state-owned enterprises and the private sector,” Dudy added.
