ESG Strengthening Drives Health and Food Security Programmes in Operational Areas
The implementation of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles is increasingly being directed towards programmes that address the basic needs of communities, particularly in health and food security within company operational areas. This approach is reflected in various corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes that integrate health services and food assistance, aiming to align economic value with social contribution while strengthening the company’s role as a social anchor within the community.
One such implementation was carried out by PT Pegadaian (Persero) through free medical services and the distribution of cooking oil packages for residents around the CPS Pondok Aren operational area in South Tangerang on Saturday (20/6). The activity targeted hundreds of local residents. The health services included blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol checks, as well as direct medical consultations with healthcare workers and the provision of medicines. In addition, the company distributed cooking oil to support the community’s basic needs.
Putri Utami Dewi, the activity’s organising chairperson and Manager of the Pondok Jaya Sharia Service Unit, stated that the programme was designed as a form of service that directly addresses the community’s needs. “We ensure that all attending residents receive excellent, safe, and comfortable service. This activity is not merely a seasonal formality, but a genuine form of our wholehearted service to ease the economic burden while sustainably maintaining the health of Pondok Aren residents,” said Putri.
Meanwhile, Cepi Kurnia Nugraha, Head of the CPS Pondok Aren Branch, conveyed that the company’s presence within the community is inseparable from the support of the surrounding environment. He also emphasised that the company’s transformation towards a Bullion Bank ecosystem relies on the trust of the local community, making it essential for the company’s presence to provide balanced social and economic benefits. “Pegadaian does not solely focus on business targets, but is fully committed to growing alongside the improvement of community welfare. Through this synergy of free medical treatment and cooking oil distribution, we want to ensure that the physical and digital presence of CPS Pondok Aren delivers tangible benefits, both from a social and economic dimension, to the surrounding community,” said Cepi.
Maryono, Regional Head of PT Pegadaian (Persero) Regional Office IX Jakarta 2, stated that the programme will continue to be expanded to various work units as part of the company’s ESG implementation. He stressed the importance of work units being sensitive to community needs, particularly regarding health and food security issues. “We at Regional Office IX Jakarta 2 always instruct all branch levels to be observant and sensitive to the needs of their surrounding environment. What was initiated by CPS Pondok Aren today is a reflection of Pegadaian’s noble value of being fully committed to ‘Solving Problems Without Problems’, including in mitigating health issues and strengthening food security. We hope this strong harmony and synergy between Pegadaian and the community can be maintained closely to welcome Golden Indonesia 2045,” concluded Maryono.
The activity proceeded in an orderly manner and was met with community enthusiasm. All health services and food aid were reported to have been distributed to the hundreds of residents in attendance. Through this integrated CSR programme, the company hopes to strengthen its social contribution while supporting the improvement of quality of life and socio-economic resilience for communities in its operational areas.
