Through its Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) programme, InJourney Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) has renovated two toilet buildings and provided hygiene education for students at SDN 2 Kuta, Lombok. This initiative serves to improve sanitation quality, implement clean living patterns, and create a healthy, safe, and comfortable school environment. The activity reflects ITDC’s concrete action in implementing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles through community empowerment around The Mandalika, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).

Specifically, the programme focuses on enhancing environmental health and implementing Clean and Healthy Living Behaviour (PHBS) for the community and the younger generation in the buffer villages of the Mandalika Special Economic Zone (KEK). ITDC Operations Director, Troy Warokka, stated that this initiative is a tangible manifestation of the company’s active role in improving the quality of life for residents surrounding The Mandalika, alongside the development of sustainable tourism.

“The development of the Mandalika SEZ must proceed in alignment with the improvement of health quality and the welfare of the community in the buffer villages,” he said in a statement on Wednesday. Through the renovation of sanitation facilities and hygiene education, ITDC aims to create a healthier and more comfortable school environment while instilling clean and healthy living habits in students from an early age.

The renovation, carried out between 6 and 24 April 2026, addressed the poor condition of the school toilets, which were previously unusable and had suboptimal drainage. The comprehensive repairs included replacing flooring, fixing sanitation and water pipes, installing sinks, replacing toilet doors, repairing roofs and ventilation, repainting, and reorganising the toilet area to ensure cleanliness and comfort.

ITDC also provided hygiene and sanitation education to students, focusing on the habituation of clean and healthy living behaviours. This included lessons on toilet etiquette, the importance of handwashing with soap, maintaining school cleanliness, and simple education regarding hydration and bodily health through the introduction of urine colour indicators. This education is expected to build awareness among students regarding the importance of personal hygiene and health from an early age.

The Head of SDN 2 Kuta, Lalu Satriadi, expressed his appreciation for ITDC’s support. “We are very grateful to ITDC for their attention and support for SDN 2 Kuta. This renovation brings very positive changes to the comfort and cleanliness of the school environment. The children can now use facilities that are more decent and healthy,” he said.

ITDC continues to strengthen its social contributions in the Mandalika SEZ buffer zone through various initiatives in education, health, environment, and community empowerment as part of its ESG implementation. This step reaffirms ITDC’s commitment to delivering inclusive and sustainable tourism development that provides a positive impact on the local communities of West Nusa Tenggara, particularly in the areas surrounding The Mandalika.
