ESG Approach Enhances Impact of Philanthropic Programmes
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — The integration of social funds with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles is beginning to be applied in the development of community empowerment programmes by philanthropic institutions. This approach is considered capable of driving more measurable economic impacts while strengthening social protections.
Several zakat, infak, and sedekah (ZIS)-based programmes are now also starting to adopt the ESG principles framework in their implementation. This approach received recognition at the Nusantara CSR Awards 2026, organised by La Tofi School of Social Responsibility in Jakarta on Wednesday (8/4/2026).
At the event, YBM BRILiaN won the Platinum Alignment award for three main programmes covering education, stunting prevention, and family economic empowerment. The assessment was conducted using the La Tofi ESG Rating and Corporate Economic Protection Index (CEPI) methodologies.
Executive Director of YBM BRILiaN, Dwi Iqbal Noviawan, stated that this achievement reflects increasingly directed and measurable management of social funds.
“This award is certainly inseparable from the support of various parties. We hope it will boost our spirit to serve mustahik and muzaki, while inspiring the zakat movement,” said Dwi on Friday (10/4/2026).
The three programmes that received the award include higher education scholarships for underprivileged students, stunting prevention programmes, and family-based economic empowerment.
These programmes are assessed as capable of providing sustainable impacts, not only in social aspects but also in community economics.
In addition, Dwi Iqbal Noviawan was also included in the list of Indonesia’s 100 Best Programme Managers 2026 with the Platinum Leader Performance predicate.
The use of the ESG approach in managing social funds is considered a new trend in the philanthropy sector. This model allows for clearer impact measurement and strengthens programme accountability amid increasing needs for community economic protection.
