ESG and Public Affairs Strengthen Public Trust in the Mining Industry
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The national mining sector is increasingly placing sustainability as part of its business processes. More than just an obligation, sustainability emphasises an approach that considers long-term impacts on the environment, society, and governance (Environmental, Social, and Governance / ESG).
In that context, public affairs becomes an important foundation to ensure that the ESG agenda runs at the holding and operational levels, while also being understood by the public through dialogue and various constructive relationship-building programmes.
Head of Institutional Relations at MIND ID, Selly Adriatika, stated that sustainability in the mining industry needs to be built on principles of transparency and dialogue.
“Communication serves as a bridge so that programmes and benefits generated from the mining sector can be fully understood by society,” said Selly Adriatika in a written statement quoted on Wednesday (6/5/2026).
As part of sustainability achievements, the MIND ID Group has cumulatively carried out reclamation of more than 7,200 hectares and planted more than 6 million trees in various operational areas. MIND ID also consistently implements decarbonisation through efficiency, the use of low-carbon fuels, and increased utilisation of renewable energy.
Through various discussion forums and meetings with Ministries/Institutions, the DPR, Associations, to national and regional mining sector observers, MIND ID transparently conveys the progress of strategic projects, and all social and environmental mitigation programmes being implemented.
MIND ID also consistently runs the MediaMIND Journalistic Works Competition, which is open not only to the media but also to academics and the public. This aims to explore perceptions from a broader range of stakeholders, which then becomes feedback for the strategic programmes run by MIND ID.
In addition, MIND ID has the Junior Fun Fest programme, which also serves as an innovative way for MIND ID to build literacy on sustainable mining for Indonesia’s young generation. Furthermore, Selly emphasised that in a highly regulated industry, communication is positioned as part of risk management and trust building so that stakeholders understand the processes, see the progress, and provide constructive input.
“Public Affairs for MIND ID is a way to deliver messages well to the public, to maintain trust and reputation so that the company can continue to provide optimal contributions to Indonesia and society,” she stressed.
For her contributions in guiding the strengthening of ESG and public affairs in the holding environment, Selly Adriatika, Head of Institutional Relations at MIND ID, received the Leading Woman in ESG & Public Affairs Leadership award at the CNN Leading Women Awards.
