ESDM Targets Full B50 Biodiesel Distribution at Fuel Stations by 1 October 2026

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) is targeting the complete distribution of 50 percent biodiesel (B50) at all public fuel stations (SPBU) by 1 October 2026. “My target is that by 1 October, B50 will be fully distributed at all points (SPBU),” said Eniya Listiani Dewi, Director General of New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation at the Ministry of ESDM, in Jakarta on Monday. She explained that the mandatory B50 programme, which commenced on 1 July, will be implemented in stages with a three-month transition period before a comprehensive evaluation is conducted in December. The transition period is necessary to allow companies time to use up existing B40 stocks while adjusting the blending process to B50. “In December, we will evaluate whether the transition over these four months has proceeded smoothly and whether all parties can complete the full B50 rollout within the three-month window,” she added. The ministry noted that 57 percent of fuel stations have already received B50 supplies. Indonesia officially launched the mandatory B50 biodiesel programme as part of efforts to reduce carbon emissions and strengthen national energy security. According to ministry data, the B50 mandate is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 44.7 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent in 2026, an increase from the savings achieved under the B40 programme in 2025. With the launch of B50, Indonesia becomes the first country in the world to implement a mandatory 50 percent biodiesel blend in diesel fuel, continuing a series of programmes from B30 to B40 over the past decade. Beyond emission reductions, the B50 mandate is projected to save up to Rp170 trillion in foreign exchange in 2026, increase the added value of crude palm oil, and absorb approximately 2.1 million workers.
