Bareskrim Polri has uncovered cases of misuse of subsidised fuel (BBM) and LPG in various regions across Indonesia. The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) regards this action as an effort to prevent leakages in the state budget.

Edi Wijaya Tarigan, representing the Working Group on Services and Supervision of Downstream Oil and Gas Activities from the Directorate General of Oil and Gas (Ditjen Migas) under ESDM, expressed support for the law enforcement activities conducted by Bareskrim Polri. This is particularly in relation to findings of misuse of BBM and LPG.

“We at Ditjen Migas, Ministry of ESDM, strongly support Bareskrim’s activities regarding the findings of misuse of subsidised LPG and BBM in the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI),” said Edi during a press conference at Bhayangkara Field, National Police Headquarters, South Jakarta, on Tuesday (7/4/2026).

Additionally, ESDM appreciates the support from the TNI Military Police Centre (Puspom TNI) in assisting the enforcement process, especially if involvement of personnel or members in the field is discovered.

“And we strongly support the involvement of Puspom TNI in backing Bareskrim’s activities to take action if any personnel or members are involved,” he continued.

Edi explained that Ditjen Migas has the primary duty to guide and supervise the distribution of 3-kilogram cylinder LPG, which is a subsidised commodity. According to him, the uncovering of this case is an important step to ensure that energy subsidies are targeted correctly.

“With these findings, the subsidies provided by President Prabowo can be controlled, with no leakages,” he stated.

Previously, Bareskrim Polri uncovered 755 crime scenes (TKP) involving the misuse of subsidised fuel (BBM) and LPG throughout 2025 up to April 2026. In total, 672 suspects were arrested in these revelations.

The illegal practices potentially caused losses to the state of up to Rp 1.26 trillion, with details showing misuse of subsidised BBM amounting to around Rp 516.8 billion and losses from misuse of subsidised LPG reaching around Rp 749.2 billion.
