ESDM Records Dusem Segment 2 Gas Infrastructure Project at 32 Percent Completion

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has recorded that the National Strategic Project (PSN) for the Dumai-Sei Mangkei (Dusem) Natural Gas Transmission Pipeline infrastructure, Segment 2, has reached 32 percent completion as of the end of July 2026. “Alhamdulillah, the field progress for Segment 2 has now reached 32 percent,” said the Director General of Oil and Gas at the Ministry of ESDM, Laode Sulaeman, in an official statement accessed from Jakarta on Thursday. He stated that this achievement exceeded the target from the previously planned schedule and affirmed that the Ministry of ESDM continues to oversee the acceleration of this infrastructure development. This acceleration, he added, is part of the government’s commitment to strengthening the integration of the national natural gas infrastructure. “Equally important, this achievement was attained while recording 300,000 safe working hours without work accidents, involving approximately 447 skilled workers in the field,” Laode said. The Dusem Natural Gas Transmission Pipeline infrastructure is planned to be built stretching from SKG Belawan to the Duri Facility, with a total length of approximately 535.4 kilometres, and is targeted for construction completion by the end of 2027 to early 2028. The gas pipeline transmission work is divided into two segments and is being carried out in parallel. Segment 1 connects Belawan to the Labuhan Batu Station, and Segment 2 connects the Labuhan Batu Station to the Duri Facility. “We extend our highest appreciation to all lines of the team, contractors, and workers involved for their dedication and hard work in overseeing this vital project,” Laode said. While appreciating the positive trend in progress deviation, Laode took the opportunity to remind all parties involved in this project not to become complacent. He stressed that physical acceleration must not sacrifice safety aspects and the technical quality of the work. During the review, he specifically highlighted the open cut work, which is one of the most crucial stages in the installation of the gas transmission pipeline. “This depth standard is important not only for the long-term safety of the pipeline but also as a crucial point during technical feasibility tests and inspection audits by the Audit Board of Indonesia (BPK),” Laode said. The construction of the Dusun Natural Gas Transmission Pipeline represents the government’s tangible commitment to encouraging the optimisation of national natural gas utilisation. The integration of the natural gas pipeline network from the North Sumatra region to Riau is expected to strengthen national energy security and support the equitable distribution of clean energy supply for industry and the public.
