ESDM Records B50 Distribution at 80%, Oversight to Be Tightened

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has recorded that distribution of 50 percent biodiesel (B50) fuel stood in the range of 75-80 percent as of 31 August 2026.

“The position is between 75-80 percent in terms of total distribution. But Pertamina petrol stations are already at 90 percent,” said Director General of New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (EBTKE) at the Ministry of ESDM, Eniya Listiani Dewi, after a working meeting with Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday, 31 August 2026.

Eniya said the Ministry of ESDM continues to supervise the distribution of B50.

The government, she added, is committed to increasing monitoring and evaluation, as the programme is intended to be executed carefully.

The Ministry of ESDM is targeting B50 distribution at all petrol stations to be fully realised by 1 October 2026.

“So, we will see in another month. We will continue to carry out supervision,” Eniya said.

Indonesia officially implemented the B50 biodiesel mandate in July 2026 as an effort to reduce carbon emissions and achieve national energy security.

According to information from the Ministry of ESDM, the implementation of B50 in 2026 is estimated to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to approximately 44.46 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent. This figure is higher than the foreign exchange savings and emission reductions achieved under the B40 programme in 2025.

With the launch of the B50 mandate, Indonesia is recorded as the first country in the world to implement a 50 percent biodiesel blending requirement in diesel fuel, continuing the series of B30, B35, and B40 biodiesel programmes that have been running for more than a decade.

In addition to reducing carbon emissions, the B50 mandate is also projected to save the country approximately Rp170 trillion in foreign exchange in 2026, increase the added value of crude palm oil (CPO), and absorb around 2.1 million workers.
