ESDM probes seven illegal mining cases with potential state loss of Rp857.55 billion
The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) is investigating seven illegal mining cases with potential state losses of Rp857.55 billion. The enforcement is handled by the ESDM’s Directorate General of Law Enforcement (Ditjen Gakkum). ESDM spokesperson Dwi Anggia said the illegal mines are spread across Kalimantan, Java, Sumatra, and the Maluku Islands. She explained that the mines are suspected of operating without a mining business permit (IUP) or holding an IUP but mining outside designated areas. The crackdown aims to ensure Indonesia’s natural resources are managed accountably and contribute to state revenue. “The government will crack down strictly on illegal mining activities and strengthen law enforcement to ensure natural resources are managed according to regulations and benefit the nation,” she said. “Companies with permits that operate outside procedures will face administrative sanctions, including permit revocation,” Anggia added.
