ESDM Prepares This Strategy to Chase 100 Gigawatt PLTS Target

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) is preparing a strategy for the development of Solar Power Plants (PLTS). This is being done to pursue the 100 Gigawatt (GW) capacity target set by President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto.

Director General of New, Renewable Energy, and Energy Conservation (EBTKE) Eniya Listiani Dewi revealed that future PLTS development will focus on three main lines. These include ground-mounted projects (land-based), rooftop PLTS, and floating PLTS (floating solar).

“We are also currently discussing how to implement this PLTS not only rapidly in ground-mounted, but also on rooftops. And what we are now promoting is floating PLTS, so floating solar PLTS,” said Eniya at the Launching of 1 GW Rooftop PLTS Indonesia event on Tuesday (21/4/2026).

Eniya assessed that solar energy is currently the backbone of the national energy transition roadmap towards the Net Zero Emission (NZE) target of 2060. Although in PLN’s Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL) up to 2034 the new PLTS capacity is targeted at 17.1 GW, the government is accelerating discussions to increase the capacity to 100 GW.

“And currently there is a directive from the President that discussions regarding solar power plants, especially the 100 GW, are underway,” she said.

On the other hand, current achievements show positive progress. The total installed PLTS capacity in Indonesia has reached around 1.5 GW. Of this amount, the largest contribution comes from rooftop PLTS, which has reached 895 Megawatts (MW).

“We can currently rejoice because the total installed solar power plants in Indonesia have reached 1.5 GW. And specifically for rooftop PLTS, it has reached 895 MW. We are still struggling to exceed 1 GW,” she said.
