Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) is calculating the export tax formula for one of the nickel downstreaming products, namely nickel pig iron (NPI), to boost state revenue through the optimisation of income sources from that sector. The statement from ESDM Minister Bahlil Lahadalia strengthens the plan to impose export taxes on nickel downstreaming products, including NPI, to increase state revenue. “For the NPI product from nickel, we are calculating it. Once again, I am calculating the formula for the imposition of the NPI tax,” Bahlil said when met at the Office of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs in Jakarta on Friday. Regarding the plan to implement export duties on coal and nickel, previously targeted to take effect on 1 April 2026, Bahlil stated that the policy is still awaiting the results of a joint study by the Ministry of ESDM and the Ministry of Finance. Meanwhile, regarding the Coal Work Plan and Budget (RKAB), Bahlil assured that there have been no changes and only measured relaxations will be applied. He explained that the relaxation is carried out while prioritising domestic needs and considering the balance between supply and demand. “If the price is good, we will also produce more. But if the price drops, we will adjust to market demand,” he said.
