ESDM Ministry: B50 Programme Delivers Real Economic Benefits

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has stated that the implementation of B50 biodiesel provides real economic benefits for the country whilst strengthening national energy independence. ESDM Spokesperson Dwi Anggia explained in Jakarta on Friday that this transformation marks an era where national energy sovereignty is driven directly by domestic commodities. Under this new formula, she said, half of every litre of diesel consumed by the public now originates from crops planted and produced directly by local Indonesian farmers. This full involvement of domestic commodities is believed to strengthen the fundamentals of national energy security in facing global market volatility. In addition to its economic impact, she conveyed that the implementation of B50 also contributes to efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The use of B50 biodiesel is projected to reduce emissions by up to 44.46 million tonnes of CO2 throughout 2026. To ensure the programme runs optimally, the ministry continues to conduct supervision and evaluation of technical and operational aspects in the field. The government is also ensuring that coordination with various parties, from vehicle manufacturers to industry players, continues during the implementation. The ministry stressed that the shift towards B50 is not merely about diversification or simply changing the type of fuel. This roadmap is a state instrument carried out in stages and based on testing, with the main priority of channelling maximum economic benefits and welfare to all levels of Indonesian society.
