ESDM Accelerates 100 GW Solar Power Plant Development, Absorbing Domestic Solar Panels
The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources is promoting the absorption of domestically produced solar panels. This step is being taken through the acceleration of solar power plant development up to 100 gigawatts.
This policy responds to pressures on the domestic solar panel industry. Import tariffs from the United States are considered to impact export performance.
“Guidance from the President (Prabowo Subianto) is how we also accelerate for the 100 GW PLTS for domestic needs. So, this will be balanced,” said Deputy Minister of ESDM Yuliot in Jakarta on Friday (24/4/2026).
The 100 GW PLTS programme is expected to increase domestic demand. Solar panel needs are projected to rise as the project progresses.
“From the Directorate General of New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (Ditjen EBTKE), they are also preparing the details. This is done with priority on 17 GW first. Then gradually it will be fulfilled up to 100 GW,” said Yuliot.
The initial phase is focused on building 17 gigawatts. Further development will be carried out gradually until the full target is achieved.
The US Department of Commerce previously set Temporary Countervailing Duties for solar panel products. This policy covers crystalline silicon photovoltaic cells.
The tariff for Indonesia is in the range of 85.99 percent to 143.30 percent. The investigation process is ongoing until the final decision in July 2026.
Thailand is in the range of 99 percent to 263 percent. Cambodia records the highest tariff of more than 3,400 percent.
The government views strengthening the domestic market as a strategic step. Large-scale PLTS projects are expected to maintain the sustainability of the national solar panel industry.
