An orangutan at Solo Safari escaped from its enclosure and roamed the area of Universitas Negeri Sebelas Maret (UNS), Jebres, Central Java. It was revealed that the orangutan, named Didi, got out of Solo Safari after outsmarting the electric security system.

Solo Safari General Manager Miyana Harikna explained how Didi was able to escape from its cage and wander into a residential area. According to Miyana, Didi was curious about climbing the wall.

“It is already known why it escaped, because our security is layered and orangutans can imitate people 90 percent of the time, so it was very curious to see and do this,” she said.

Miyana said the facility had implemented very strict security measures. However, the orangutan named Didi also removed the electric security system provided by Solo Safari.

“In detail, we have just discovered that it climbed and removed the electric security system, that is the main point,” she said.

Miyana received information that the orangutan had escaped and immediately checked the enclosure. She was shocked to find the enclosure empty.

Miyana said the Solo Safari team searched outside the enclosure for about 30 minutes. Eventually, the orangutan was found on a main road.

“So actually, we only had a brief search process, approximately 30 minutes outside the enclosure. At around 16.40 the animal was successfully rescued,” she explained.
