Erwin Ensures Child-Friendly School Orientation in Bandung, Strengthens Character and Anti-Bullying Stance

Deputy Mayor of Bandung, Erwin, monitored the implementation of the 2026/2027 School Environment Orientation Period (MPLS) at two primary schools, SDN 184 Buahbatu and SDN 069 Cipamokolan Derwati, on Wednesday (15/7). During his visit, he asserted that MPLS must be a momentum for building students’ character, not an occasion for hazing or bullying.

Accompanied by the Head of the Bandung City Education Office, Asep Saeful Gufron, Erwin reviewed the orientation activities, greeted new students, provided motivation, and engaged in dialogue with teachers about the learning process. He highlighted the crucial role of teachers as role models, stating that educational success is determined not only by academic ability but also by the formation of morals and character.

‘Teachers are figures who are trusted and emulated. Therefore, teachers must be able to uphold noble character and set a good example for their students. MPLS must be a means to strengthen togetherness, not an arena for hazing or bullying. Such things must no longer occur in schools,’ he explained. He called on all educators to guide students attentively so they can adapt to the school environment positively.

Erwin also conveyed a message to the students to cultivate a passion for seeking knowledge from an early age. Quoting a message from the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), he encouraged children to grow into individuals who love knowledge, seek knowledge, listen to knowledge well, and cherish knowledge. He noted that if these four aspects are practised, they will serve as good provisions for their future.

After reviewing SDN 184 Buahbatu, Erwin continued his monitoring agenda at SDN 069 Cipamokolan Derwati. In front of the new students, he encouraged them to participate in MPLS with joy and to make it the starting point for achieving success. He expressed hope that through the orientation, the children would become not only academically intelligent but also pious, socially resilient, and of noble character.

Erwin also expressed his appreciation to the teachers, describing their profession as noble and urging them to carry out their duties with sincerity as a form of charitable deed. ‘The teaching profession is very noble. Teach with the intention of worship and charity. Beneficial knowledge will continue to flow its rewards, and successfully educating children to become pious individuals is an extraordinary investment in good deeds,’ he stated. In addition to giving speeches, the Deputy Mayor inspected the school environment and took photographs with teachers and students.
