Ermanto Usman, Who Was Murdered, Was Sacked Twice from JICT for Being Too Vocal
Bekasi – Dalsuf Usman, elder brother of Ermanto Usman (65), revealed that his brother had been sacked twice from Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT), a Pelindo subsidiary, for being too vocal in voicing the union’s demands.
“He (the victim) was fired twice at Pelindo. At the time of the dismissal it was ultimately overturned by the Minister of Transport. He was fired because he criticized policies that did not follow proper procedures,” Dalsuf told reporters on Tuesday (3 March 2026).
According to Dalsuf, while active, Ermanto held the position of HRD Manager at JICT and served as chair of the JICT retirees association.
“So his patriotic spirit was such that even though the family advised stopping it, he kept going,” Dalsuf said.
Dalsuf said his younger brother also frequently expressed his views through a number of podcasts, including discussions on JICT’s contract extension with Hong Kong’s Hutchison Port Holdings (HPH).
“The deceased was indeed remarkable. Especially when he was still actively working, he defended workers. He was the head of the union at a state-owned enterprise, PT JICT. He was also idealistic including about national interests,” he said.
Meanwhile, the eldest son of the victim Fiandy A Putra (33) said his father had not worked for JICT for nine years.
“My father retired from PT JICT, a Pelindo subsidiary, nine years ago. Recently he was active and enthusiastic about making podcasts. That perhaps makes him an activist,” Putra said.
Putra assessed that his father’s activities carried risks because they relate to the interests of workers on the ground.
“What my father did is something we all know the risks of,” he added.
Although not knowing in detail all of his father’s activities, Putra believes the incident affecting his parents is not purely an act of robbery.
Following the incident, the family called for justice from President Prabowo Subianto so that the case could be thoroughly investigated.
“We from the family ask for justice from Mr. President, hoping the case of our father can be uncovered who the perpetrators are. Because in our view this points more toward a murder case,” Putra said.
